Nila

Ni-la, Tamil.

The full moon reflected in a rippling lake. A crescent that peeps out of a cloudy sky. The promise of moonrise and the drama of an eclipse. The queen of the night sky is a stunning symbol of love and longing. Eternal yet ever changing.

Mookuthi’s Nila collection is a tribute to the moon’s sorcery – its shape-shifting powers and seductive beauty. A distillation of all its mystery and romance in miniature beauties. An evocative piece of wearable magic.

Frequently Asked Questions

01

What does Nila mean, and what do the pieces draw from?

Nila is the Tamil word for the moon. The nose pins draw from the many ways she appears, full and luminous, a crescent through clouds, a reflection in still water. Always there, never quite the same twice.

02

Do the Nila pieces carry the shape of the moon in them?

They do. All nose studs take a phase: full, half, crescent, sometimes layered. The moon has always meant something a little different to each person. The one you're drawn to is usually the one that already feels familiar.

03

What stones and materials do the Nila pieces work with?

You’ll find yellow gold, set with diamonds, in the Nila nose pins. The diamonds don't draw attention to themselves; they hold the light quietly, the way moonlight does.

04

Are the Nila pieces made in gold?

Yes, yellow gold. Some nose studs are set with diamonds, others are left as they are. Both feel right in their own way.

05

How do you care for a Nila nose pin?

Nila pieces are polished and prefer to stay that way. Keep them away from abrasive materials and anything rough, as they wear the finish over time.
